Mulch has some variants and it is for sure that they have a lot of benefits for your soil. Find out more about that here, and also about placing mulch under weedmat.

Several Types of Mulch
The use of mulch can protect your plant’s roots from the extreme temperature. In the market, you may find several variants of mulches as follows.
1. Pebbles and Stones
People usually use it to make a decorative finish. However, this type also works well with succulents that need heat. It works by preventing water loss whereas, in other words, you may see that it doesn’t enrich the organic content of the ground.
Make sure to understand that you should clean the pebble mulch regularly. It is because this type can be dirty easily by the leaf litter.
2. Organic Mulches
You may want to place this mulch under weedmat. Examples of these organic mulches are leaves, pine bark, pine needles, pea straw, wood chips, compost, and more.
This organic thing can improve your soil structures and moisture. It is because they can break down, but it is also a reason why they need to be replenished.
The Ways to Lay Mulch
Laying mulch is not that difficult, but make sure to wear a mask because it can be dusty and contain organisms. Here are some guides to lay this material properly.
- Clear the weeds or you can spray it
- Apply the slow-release fertilizers or pellets
- Water it thoroughly
- Lay the newspaper at least 12 sheets thick. It is for the extra weed barrier
- Wet them thoroughly
- Spread the mulch with 5-8cm deep
Please ensure that you water this mulch regularly. It is done to make water pass the mulch and go to the soil.
Should You Place Mulch under Weedmat
Placing mulch under weedmat is the right thing to do. The reason is mulch will break down as time goes by and when you place them under the weedmat, the nutrients and compost will be able to make the plant’s root healthy.
Several people may use landscape fabric because they believe that it will keep their mulch from decaying. They thought that it didn’t need to be replenished.
However, most mulches nowadays are made from wood. Then the dead wood will always decay automatically when there is proper moisture.
That decay is good and that is why; you should place mulch under weedmat. Mulch made from wood that breaks down will become humus. Thus humus is a good nutrition for your soil and plants.
If you place a weed mat under mulch, this fabric can interfere with that process. In other words, fabric can block that organic matter, that is why; placing mulch under weedmat is more recommended.
