What is non-woven polyester? To understand this term, you should know the polyester itself and also the non-woven method that is used in its production process.

Besides that, that theme forces us to know about the woven variant too. Both of them have different production processes, and the functions are not similar as well.

The non-woven polyester product can be found in many scopes in our life. You may find it in the industrial sectors, medical, road construction, geotextile, and many more again.

About Polyester Material

The definition of polyester is a general term for any fabric or textile made using polyester yarn or fiber. Polyester fiber is created by combining chemical compounds (Ethylene Glycol and Terephthalic Acid) with Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET).

The raw material for making this product sounds so scientific, right? However, did you know that basically, polyester is a type of plastic?

Even though some people may still be unfamiliar with the term polyester, they use the product often. It is often used as a material for making clothes.

However, it is not only clothes because this material is also used in the process of making bed sheets, carpets, sofas, macrame ropes, and blankets. The uses are wide and easy to find around us.

What is Non-Woven Polyester?

It will be easier to understand this fabric by revealing its differences with the woven one. That is why; here are those differences so that you can understand more about what is non-woven polyester?

1.     Fabric Shape

In terms of shape, non-woven polyester has woven fibers, generally produced in one color variant (white). In addition, this type is very similar to rag carpet.

Meanwhile, the woven variant looks similar to plastic rice sacks at a glance and is usually produced in black. You may find these products easily in the market and online stores as well.

2.     The Function

Even though they are made from the same material, these fabrics have different functions. In the world of civil engineering, non-woven is often used for separators and filters in project work.

Apart from that, it is also common to use it as a filter to drain water into the soil. Furthermore, you can apply this material as a wrapper for drainage pipes. Meanwhile, woven fabric is generally used as a soil stabilizer, especially soft soil.

However, you may apply this thing as a separator to prevent the mixing of embankment soil and separator soil in a project. The functions are quite different between these variants.

3.     Price

In terms of prices, of course, it depends on the size and the respective distributors. In general, the non-woven fabric is sold at a more affordable price compared to the woven one.

That is an explanation of the differences between non-woven and woven fabrics. The quality of use of course also depends on the quality of the fabric itself. One more thing is that woven is usually stronger and more durable.

However, non-woven is still good since it is strong too and you can double up the usage to add more strength if it is needed. So, what is non-woven polyester? The comparison above can answer this question.
